The UK and Thailand are seeking to improve energy efficiency through the UK's ASEAN Low Carbon Energy programme. Which aims to encourage the transition to low-carbon energy in Thailand while generating real energy cost savings for households and businesses and helping to promote economic growth in the country.
The Foreign Office and Commonwealth Government of the United Kingdom have provided funding for the ASEAN-led low carbon energy programme. This has been done with the aim of promoting inclusive growth and reducing poverty through greater efficient use of energy, as well as through the use of energy sources that emit less carbon dioxide.
Why improve energy efficiency?
Energy efficiency improvement plans need to reinforce policies, mandates and objectives related to the industry, as well as provide support to develop it. These also focus on deve Caseno Email List loping processes and methodologies to collect energy data that can be used to strengthen sector analysis.
Likewise, they aim to increase investments in energy efficiency by stimulating pilot projects, designing new products and opening markets to service companies. And also, promote energy management systems to strengthen the business case for energy efficiency and identify energy saving opportunities for food and beverage producing companies.
Long-term partnership to work together to improve energy efficiency
The UK and Thailand have signed a Letter of Intent to establish a long-term partnership to work together on energy efficiency .
The partnership between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) of Thailand's Ministry of Energy will provide technical assistance and knowledge sharing.
It aims to improve energy efficiency in four strategic areas, including:
The development of a methodology
More advanced data analysis to evaluate energy efficiency
Creating an appropriate regulatory environment
Market opportunities for energy services companies or ESCOs.
They will also support the implementation of Thailand's Energy Efficiency Plan and enhance the development and implementation of energy performance standards for electric motors in the industrial sector.
The association supports Thailand's plans to reduce energy demand by % by
Brian Davidson, British ambassador to Thailand, said: “Energy efficiency is about delivering real cost savings for people and businesses. In the UK, energy efficiency measures to improve insulation and heating efficiency alone have reduced annual household energy costs by the equivalent of up to , baht per year.
“As co-chair of the UN COP global climate change negotiations next November, the UK believes that energy efficiency has a key role to play in preventing catastrophic climate change.
We applaud Thailand for its efforts to improve energy efficiency to help businesses and individuals save money. I am confident that the signing of this Letter of Intent today with the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency will ensure the continuation of our ambitious partnership to reduce carbon emissions , reduce energy costs and create employment opportunities.”
